National Geographic’s series ‘The Hot Zone: Anthrax,’ a six hour scientific thriller about the wave of terror that gripped the country 20 years ago in the weeks following the 9/11 attacks. Life as we know…Changed September 11, 2001. As the country suffered from the devastating act of terrorism, letters containing anthrax were sent to several news offices and prominent Democratic politicians in Washington DC, Florida and New York. The anonymous assault claimed five (5) lives, 17 others were infected and caused panic throughout the country.
Legendary Director Riley Scott’s ‘The Hot Zone: Anthrax’ follows the parallel stories of Matthew Ryker (Daniel Dae Kim ‘Lost’ & ‘Hawaii 5-0’), an FBI agent with a specialty in Microbiology and Dr. Bruce Ivins (Tony Goldwyn ‘Scandal’), a brilliant Microbiologist who becomes embroiled in the hunt to find the 2001 anthrax serial killer. Ryker risks his career to convince his superiors of the unthinkable, that the United States is under attack yet again. Ivins works closely with the FBI to uncover who is behind the deadly anthrax letters, while his growing instability and paranoia give way to deeper unnerving discoveries as he slowly closes in on a shocking prime suspect.
Lawton is Sheila Willis, a pharmaceutical rep who graduated top three (3) out of Texas who lobbies on Capitol Hill. She has put more into her career than personal life and has an on again off again relationship with FBI Agent Ryker. After 9/11 everything has her rethinking her priorities.
